Beth Carver Art - Expressions of Joyful Living

Morning Kiss by Beth Carver

What do you look for in a work of art? I am drawn to works that stir the emotions in some way-- the reason I have always been drawn to Norman Rockwell's drawings and paintings. Much of his work makes you want to laugh or cry or think seriously.

When I first saw Beth Carver's paintings, I was drawn to them in a similar way. They are free from any  element of superficiality: airbrushed bodies, retouched faces and plastic smiles. Beth's paintings strike a chord. At once you can feel that here is an artist who understands and is sympathetic toward the human plight. And it is no wonder. Beth says that the inspiration for her work and her ability to achieve the emotional impact that it generates are the result of an epiphany she had on the beach of Melbourne, Florida while thinking about the impending death of her father. She noticed a large, older woman playing in the surf with the exuberance of a child, and her joy lifted Beth's spirits. From that time on, Beth focused all her talent and skill on creating paintings centered on the precious joy of living, paintings that would make the "viewer feel the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the sea like the touch of a friend or relative bringing love and happiness."

Just so you know, I did not receive compensation of any kind for this post; I just like the art.

Happy Official First Day of Summer! And to my friends in the Southern hemisphere, I hope these images will bring a little touch of the summer to come to your part of the world!

  1. Hello Keri,
Thank you for this lovely review, I did not know of Beth Carver until just now. Her art is so full of sun and warmth and happiness and her commitment to focus on joyful living in her art so inspiring.
I also love that her ladies aren't stick thin but real women - as we look forward to our little trip to the sea this summer I start to notice negative thoughts pop into my head about my (perfectly fine!) figure - and that is not joyful living!
The imagine in "Morning Kiss" of the mother and child nuzzling noses is so endearing.
Happy 1st day of summer to you, too! Do you need any rain? We're having it coming down in buckets today here! (making these sun-speckled paintings even more heart-warming!) xo Karen

  2. NOW THIS is art. I have a long way to go...because I can recognize that EMOTION is a huge part, if not ALL, of what makes art from the heart. The subjects are REAL WOMEN that we may know. They are not models, ideals, but real. The light is so warm and pulls emotion right out of you. FABULOUS CHOICE MY DEAR. Anita

  10. Oh how the light of the sun and in the FACES of these beautiful woman make the subjects really stand out as PEOPLE and not just subjects on a canvas. That is art, when the audience FEELS something!

And dearest, your comment is so ENCOURAGING. No matter how insignificant or humble the beginnings or the end, the means or the skills, IF WE CAN TOUCH LIVES, then that is what we take with us for the rest of our journey. THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME OF THAT. I am going through a new transition with the ART THING....I knew it would be sporadic in terms of selling, but when you actually experience it, it is frightening, when you are hoping you can make your bread and butter on it. Oh well, onward for the lesson of a lifetime.

    ENJOY YOUR SATURDAY! Anita
