A book-worm since age 6, I can remember my aunt telling me that I could travel all around the world within the pages of a good book. If that is true of a book, it is even more true of the plethora of interesting blogs that populate the ever-expanding blogosphere. One interesting blog-stop that I've discovered is Tales from Carmel a place full of tours of historic, beautiful and interesting cottages in Carmel, California. This weeks gem is 92-years-old By the Way Cottage, shown here looking oh-so-charming with smoke curling out of its chimney.
Neatly trimmed boxwoods and climbing vines lead to the French door and the light filled entry...
Which leads to another light-filled room, a vaulted ceiling great room...
offering a cushy opportunity to sit with a good book.
The expansive kitchen...
with a beautiful La Cornue range.

Upstairs, the master suite is secluded on its on floor..
With a charming pale blue and white rose pattern covering walls and used on draperies...
and continuing through the bathroom..
to the charming slipper tub under yet another window letting in the abundant natural light.
Outside, a blue-gray dutch door continues the watery color palette..
and leads into the kitchen.
If the house isn't enough to make you sigh.. try out this view.

You'll love the detailed posts filled with historical reference and beautiful photos, and frequently, floor plans.

Enjoy the WEEKEND!

Darling friend,
ReplyDeleteThese very cottages are the sources of inspiration from which my husband drew his ideas to make our Minneapolis cottage into our dream. I LOVE CARMEL and we were there for our honeymoon 30 years ago. I was too young to even appreciate all the beauty, but now I would soak up every detail of these homes. I LOVE THIS HOUSE. We just had a covered deck built and today with all the work DONE, I am going outside to work on the gardens to tidy it up for a guest coming on Monday. What a fresh and beautiful look!
I hope you are well and HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! Anita
Wow what a total charmer! Misleading it doesn't look so big from the outside but inside, its so open and airy...and sooo well done!! Will visit the blog...looks like a winner!
ReplyDeleteSo funny...I am local and have never stumbled upon this blog...thanks for introducing me...yikes she has a lot of posts per page though!

Hi Keri, another beautiful and informative post and a gift...a new blog to visit! I love the vaulted pine ceiling and beams painted white...my thoughts for our new garden room.
ReplyDeleteOur tastes are very similar....I loved Carmel during our visit....could live there in a heart beat....hope you are enjoying the weekend, N.xoxo
This home captures the pure essence of Carmel. This is why so many people visit and then return over and over. It's mellow, it's beautiful, it's creative, it's on the Pacific...what's not to love?

Dear Keri,
ReplyDeleteYour post has made me sigh with pleasure. I would love to spend, say, a week in that house playing make believe games ;-)
Thank you so much for sharing these dreamy pictures.
I wish you a happy week full of inspiration.

What a great home. Love the ceilings and how they painted everything white.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredibly charming! I wish I had seen this before writing my Dutch door post - the Dutch door in this house is exactly what I had in mind when I wrote that they are perfect for homes by the sea, where you can catch a great breeze.

ReplyDeleteKERI MY SWEET FRIEND!
ReplyDeleteI have been working all day in my workshop and I am so happy to be here, to visit and see that you came to visit me. I so love this cottage post that you did; we are enjoying our own cottage here. We added a new deck off from the new construction and it is so wonderful.
YOU TOO had a reunion with an old friend? It is marvelous to have reunions. I am up for another one NEXT WEDNESDAY as my dear cousin comes to stay with me with her beautiful daughter.
Enjoy the summer days my sweet! Anita
